Welcome to this micro-library!
WARNING
After welcoming you, I must right away offer my apologies!!! This homepage was created in 2000, right after I had finished writing my M.Sc. dissertation and book on emotional factors involved in the Brazilian experience with high inflation, back in the late 1980's up till 1994, when Plano Real, under Fernando Henrique Cardoso, finally reduced it.
Since then, a lot has happened in the world - and here in this site! Perhaps the main point has been my ever deepening involvement with Economic Psychology, while this field is being built in Brazil. Being such active part in this process has been quite thrilling and we see bright perspectives over bringing the discipline to our agenda regarding issues like financial capability, financial inclusion and over-indebtedness. This has already begun, and I get very excited when I look back at where we came from along this process - there was practically nothing related to this field prior 1990 - and now we can say that we are taking firm steps towards fully having economic psychology in different sectors down here.
But there has been a price: I just don't have much time anymore, because there is so much to be done yet! As a result, the English version of this homepage has been one of the most hit areas in this respect, as I simply have been unable to update it as I should!
That is why the apologies...
So, I am very sorry, from here on, whatever you read, please do keep in mind that it hasn't been updated for quite some time!
Over less than a decade we have already become familiar with this new type of communication - the large web of interconnected data. Fast, open and broadening contacts. A new way of exchanging ideas has been coming up. And this is the spirit when I introduce this space - to offer the possibility of reading papers and getting in touch with thoughts in four fields that, in my view, have points of intersection.
- Psychoanalysis - my original source - here considered in its 'object-relations' approach, i.e., besides Freud, the investigation based also on the ideas of M.Klein, W.Bion and D.Winnicott;
- Economic Psychology - an area still little discussed in our country, but which has been developing a lot over Europe especially, but also the U.S.A. and New Zealand - that apparently could find a truly fertile land to actually 'blossom', here in Brazil - psychological aspects that could be found in economic phenomena - what do you think?
- Consultancy - a method of research of emotional factors that hold an influence over work and the management of career and money - that reunites psychoanalytical foundations and ideas from Economic Psychology and Social Psychology with the objective of facilitating the upcoming of more favourable conditions to evolution in the professional area;
- Social Psychology - focusing the psychological point of view over social and economic phenomena - it presents the possibility of doing the so-called 'research-action', where studying may turn out to be a kind of opening to action as well and a contribution to transformation in broader dimensions of the community.
The site is divided into different sections that can be visited according to your own interest. There are articles, essays and papers about the issues listed above, under the title papers. There is also a brief introduction about the authors that have helped me 'come along this way' - under authors and quotations - along with some of their quotations. A more thorough description of the consultancy I make can be found in "How can you make the best of a bad job?" There are special links to my book - 'The Emotional Component - mental functioning and illusion at the light of economic transformations in Brazil since 1985'' - under book; and for a video of a lecture I have made in Interpsic (see link) about 'Mental Functioning, Money and Work', under video. Besides these there are links to other sites that are in some way connected to my work, or that may be of general interest. I especially distinguish The International Association for Research in Economic Psychology - IAREP, and The Australian Institute of Socio-Analysis - AISA. These two institutions have had important resonance on my investigations due both to the contacts that have been made possible through the net, and the publications of each one of them, that have risen several issues that stimulate thinking them over. It is surely worth a visit! To keep interactivity we have a space for suggestions, the traditional guest book where you can leave your impressions, and also the 'hot line' speak to me. And finally - the site is bilingual! It is possible to choose between Portuguese and English, so we can expand the possibility of making contact to the colleagues outside of Brazil too. And now to really close it - some general information about my 'route' may be found under the author. So - HAVE A NICE TRIP!
ps: just a little 'reminder' in terms of how the navigation possibilities will be dispalyed - there may be an overlap of information, that is, the same links and orientation towards pages will appear at different points, since the aim here is to make it easy and agile to visit the sections that may interest each one individually, and according to the personal 'routes' chosen to do so. |
